The ~SIMM~ is a small circuit board which can be plugged into special slots on the motherboard. When installed, RAM chips mounted on the SIMM expand the computer's memory. Many systems now include SIMM slots because of the convenience of installation they afford. A SIMM can be installed literally in seconds, with little chance of error. Older methods would require a minimum of nine ~DRAM~ chips to be installed in clumsy ~IC~ sockets. This method can cause several problems as the pins of the chips can bend easily. SIMMs also take up less space on the motherboard, allowing more memory to be installed. One |megabyte| SIMMs are the most common, but they are available up to a capacity of 32 MB.
